Meet Agnes

Counsellor, Author and Wellness Advocate

I’m a qualified counsellor (ACA member) with a Master’s degree in Sociology and a strong interest in emotional health and personal growth. I offer email and text-based counselling to support people through anxiety, depression, panic attacks, social anxiety, grief, and life transitions.

One of my main areas of focus is helping women through midlife changes, especially perimenopause and menopause. This is something I’ve experienced firsthand, and I know how confusing it can be when it doesn’t start with the typical symptoms people talk about.

For me, it began with rising anxiety and sleep problems. I didn’t connect these symptoms to perimenopause at the time. Like many women, I blamed stress, work, and everything else going on, including raising a teenager. The more common symptoms, like night sweats and hot flushes, came much later. If I had known what was really happening in my body, I could’ve saved myself years of struggling.

That’s why I wrote Don’t Pause for Menopause: A Personal and Practical Guide to Thriving Through Perimenopause, Menopause and Beyond. The book brings together my lived experience and professional knowledge to offer support, clarity, and real tools for women navigating this time in their lives.

My approach is person-centred — I believe that each person is unique and deserves support that’s tailored to who they are, not just what they’re going through. I use a combination of evidence-based methods, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches, depending on what suits the person best.

I also like to get a sense of someone’s learning style — whether they’re more visual, reflective, or verbal — so I can offer strategies that actually feel useful and natural to them. For example, if someone is a visual learner, I might suggest ways they can work with imagery or visual prompts to support their emotional process.

My work blends science with compassion and intuition with evidence. I believe strongly in the mind–body connection, especially during major transitions like perimenopause and menopause. I’m also currently studying nutrition at university, and I see how important it is to support the whole person, not just emotionally, but physically and mentally too.

What drew me to counselling and sociology in the first place was a deep need to understand the emotional layers of human experience. I’ve gone through my healing journey — one that involved working through difficult early experiences and slowly rebuilding a sense of safety, clarity, and self-trust. I don’t go into all of that here, but it helps me connect with the people I work with in an honest and grounded way.

If you’re feeling lost, overwhelmed, or like something has shifted and you can’t quite explain it, you’re not alone. I’m here to support you in a practical, compassionate, and down-to-earth way.

Currently, I offer counselling via email and text. You’re also welcome to explore my book, Don’t Pause for Menopause, or contact me directly — my email address is listed at the bottom of this website.
